Institution of Public Health Engineers, India (IPHE) celebrated the Public Health Engineers Day on 9th March, 2021. A ‘Round Table Discussion’ was organized on the occasion in the Headquarters at CK-58, Salt Lake City, Kolkata from 4.00 to 5.30 pm which was followed by a virtual group discussion through Google meet from 6.00 to 7.00 pm.
The ‘Round Table Discussion’ held in
the IPHE hall was chaired by Prof. K. J. Nath, President of the institution.
The welcome address on the occasion briefly describing significance of the Day,
particularly in the beginning of the 50th year of establishment of
IPHE was delivered by Shri B. K. Sengupta, Secretary General of the
institution. The golden memories of IPHE during its long journey since 1972 was
nicely discussed by Shri S. K. Neogi, founder member, Adviser cum Emeritus
Secretary General of the institution. Discussions by ShriNeogi about the
initial years of establishment of the institution and its regional activity
centres, construction of headquarters building and shifting to the present
permanent address was heart touching, reminded dedication of many honorable
members and well-wishers of the institution.
Shri S. K. Mukherjee, Editor; Shri T.
K. Dutta, Secretary and Shri K. A. Roy, Council Member also took part in the
discussions; mostly discussed about their memories and thoughts for the
institution in coming days, particularly about the upcoming Golden Jubilee
celebration. Prof. K. J. Nath formally declared ‘launching of yearlong campaign
for celebration of the Golden Jubilee in the year2022.
In the presidential address, Prof.
Nath fondly remembered his association with the institution since his early
service life, sweet memories of various successful events particularly 3(three)
WEDC conferences organized in Kolkata and New Delhi during late 80s and 90s.
Prof. Nath called upon the members and well-wishers of the institution to come
forward for befitting celebration of the Golden Jubilee next year. He also requested
the office bearers of the regional activity centres and the headquarters to get
actively involved in the yearlong wide campaigning about Golden Jubilee
celebration including special membership drive and raising funds for organizing
different activities across the country.

delivered formal vote of thanks to the dignitaries, speakers and the audience
present on the occasion.
The virtual group discussion through
Google meet was started with the welcome address by Shri B. K. Sengupta,
Secretary General, IPHE. The event was attended by many honourable members from
across the country. Discussions were initiated by Prof. ArunabhaMajumder, Vice
President, IPHE; remembering his association with the institution as one of the
founder members and requested the members to come forward and participate in
activities of the institution during the period of campaigning for Golden
Jubilee celebration.
ShriParitoshTyagi, former Chairman,
CPCB and fellow member from Delhi region welcomed the initiative of organizing
the virtual meeting by the institution and suggested to consider renaming of
the institution as Institution of Public Health & Environmental Engineers,
India since almost every academic institution is conferring degree in
environmental engineering in place of public health engineering.
Prof. S. K. Mazumdar, formerProfessor
of Delhi Technical University and an active member of the institution has made
several suggestions including creation of different technical divisions in the
institution to expand its activities.
ShriHimanshu Prasad, retired Chief
Engineer, Govt. of Meghalaya and a fellow member of the institution also placed
several suggestions including organizing such virtual meeting in future in the
forms of online training, workshop and seminars.
Shri V. K. Nadkar, seniorConsultant
and fellow member of the institution suggested to consider formation of a
consortium of similar minded institution/organization e.g. IWWA, IPA etc. for
organizing workshops, seminars etc. both in physical and virtual mode; which
will benefit every member of such consortium.
Other members participated in the
group discussionincludes Prof. R. Mehrotra, ShriPawan Kumar & Shri Vijay K.
Gupta (all from Delhi region); Shri J. C. Ganguly, Shri K. A. Roy (both from
Kolkata region) and ShriBipin Panda (from Bhubaneshwar region).
The virtual meeting was also briefly
participated by Prof. K. J. Nath, President IPHE; while his message on the Day
was conveyed to the participants by Shri K. A. Roy, Council Member. The event
ended with concluding remarks from Prof. ArunabhaMajumder, Vice President,
IPHE.
