The Green
Consumers Day, 2021 was observed by the Institution of Public Health Engineers,
India on 28th September, 2021. A virtual group discussion through
Google meet was arranged by the Institution on the theme of the year, ‘Importance
of Recycling – Reusing – Reducing waste material’.
The event was
held for about an hour from 6.00 pm onwards on the day; and started with self-
introduction of the participants and opening remarks by Prof. K. J. Nath,
President, IPHE followed by a presentation made by ShriKripanAyudh Roy, Council
member, IPHE based on the theme of the day. The presentation was followed by
lively discussions by the participants, who also shared thoughts and
experiences based on the basic theme of the day. Amongst the participants,
Prof. K. J. Nath, President, IPHE; and fellow memberShri H. R. Gaidhani took
active part in the lively discussions and shared personal thoughts on the theme
of the day. The event ended with the concluding remarks made by Prof. K. J.
Nath, President, IPHE. The event was coordinated by Shri K. A. Roy, Council
Member, IPHE, India.
The key
issues discussed by the speaker and the participants on the occasion include
i) importance
of 3Rs i.e. Recycle, Reuse and Reduce in waste management;
ii) role of
IPHE and its members in public awareness generation about integrated waste
management;
iii) need,
ways and means for value addition to waste material;
iv)
scientificwaste management;
v) need for
human resource development for scientific waste management, so as to find
appropriate solutions in handling waste material.
