World Health Day, 2021 was observed by Institution of
Public Health Engineers, India on 7thApril, 2021. A virtual group
discussion through Google meet was arranged by the Institution on the theme of
the year, ‘Building a fairer, healthier world for everyone’.
The event was held for about an hour and a half from 6.30
pm onwards on the day; and started with self- introduction of the participants
followed by sharing thoughts and experiences about ‘building a fairer,
healthier world for everyone’, particularly in the ongoing pandemic situation
due to Covid-19. Among the participants, Prof. K. J. Nath, President, IPHE;
Prof. Dr. ArunabhaMajumderand Dr. N. B. Basu,
Vice-Presidents, IPHE; Shri J. C. Ganguly, Council Member; and ShriBipin Panda;
ShriVijendraVikramaditya and Shri H. R. GaidhaniFellow Member took active part
in the lively discussions and raised their concerns on different environmental
sanitation, personal hygiene, socio-economic and other technical aspects on health
related issues especially in the current pandemic situation throughout the
world. The event was coordinated by Shri K. A. Roy, Council Member, IPHE,
India.
The key issues discussed by the expert speakers on the
occasion include:
i) scientific
handling and disposal of Covid-19 waste;
ii) Role of IPHE and its members in public awareness
generation about personal hygiene in the ongoing pandemic situation;
iii) need for pollution free environment;
iv) scientific liquid and solid waste management;
v) need for human resource development for scientific pandemic
management to overcome the Covid-19 challenges towards building a healthier and
fairer world for everyone.
