Institution of Public Health Engineers, India observed World Environment Day, 2021


World Environment Day, 2021 was observed by the Institution of Public Health Engineers, India on 5th June, 2021. A virtual group discussion through Google meet was arranged by the Institution on the theme of the year, ‘Ecosystem Restoration’.

The event was held for about an hour and half from 6.00 pm onwards on the day; started with self- introduction of the participants and ‘Keynote address’ by Shri Yogesh Sharma, former Director, MoEF&CC, Adviser, National Mission for Clean Ganga, Chief Engineer, UP Jal Nigam and a senior fellow member of IPHE. This was followed by 2(two) presentations made by Dr. N. B. Basu, former Principal Chief Engineer, Kolkata Municipal Corporation, Ex- General Secretary, Indian Science Congress and Vice- President, IPHE; and byShriBarun Kumar Basak, Steel, Engineering & Environmental professional expert and Council member, IPHE based on the theme of the day.

The presentations were followed by lively discussions by the participants, who also shared thoughts and experiences based on the theme of the day. Amongst the participants, Shri Yogesh Sharma, the Keynote Speaker; Dr. N. B. Basu, Vice-President, IPHE; ShriBarun Kumar Basak, Council Member; and the fellow members namely Prof. R. Mehrotra, ShriBipin Panda, Dr. AlokSuman, and ShriC, B, Chaurasia took active part in the lively discussions and shared theirthoughts on the theme of the day. The programme was presided by Prof. K. J. Nath, President, IPHE. The event ended with the concluding remarks made by Shri Yogesh Sharma and Dr. N. B. Basu. The event was coordinated by Shri K. A. Roy, Council Member, IPHE, India.

The key issues discussed by the speaker and the participants on the occasion include

i) Importance for restoration of ecosystem;

ii) Role of IPHE and its members in public awareness generation about caring and restoring the ecosystem of the planet, particularly in the ongoing pandemic situation;

iii) Need, ways and means for restoration of ecosystem;

iv) Scientificecosystem management;

v) Need for human resource development for restoration of the ecosystemof the planet earth.
