World Nature Conservation Day, 2021 was observed by Institution of Public Health Engineers, India on 28thJuly, 2021. A virtual group discussion through Google meet was arranged by the Institution on the day.
The event was
held for about an hour from 6.30 pm onwards on the day; and started with self-
introduction of the participants and opening remarks by Prof. K. J. Nath,
President, IPHE followed by a presentation made by ShriBarun Kumar Basak, Council
member, IPHE based on importance of the day. The presentation was followed by showing
2 videos about significance of the day, and lively discussions by the
participants, who also shared thoughts and experiences based on the basic objective
of the day. Amongst the participants, the fellow members namely Prof. S. K.
Mazumder, ShriBipin Panda, ShriDebashishGangulyand ShriDr. Prashant Singh, took
active part in the lively discussions on the presentation made by ShriBasakand shared
personal thoughts on the day. The event ended with the concluding remarks and
suggestions made by Prof. (Dr.) ArunabhaMajumder and Dr. N. B. Basu, VicePresidents,
IPHE India. The event was coordinated by Shri K. A. Roy, Council Member, IPHE
India.
The key
issues discussed by the speaker and the participants on the occasion include
i) Importance
for conservation of nature;
ii) Role of
IPHE and its members in public awareness generation about caring and conserving
the natural resources of the planet, particularly in the ongoing pandemic
situation;
iii) Need,
ways and means for conservation of water, diminishing minerals and greenbelts
of the planet;
iv) Scientificresource
management; and
v) Need for minimising threat and risk of degradation of nature vis-a-visfinding
appropriate solutions to keep the planet earth livable for all.
