Earth Day, 2021 was observed by Institution of Public Health Engineers, India on 22ndApril, 2021. A virtual group discussion through Google meet was arranged by the Institution on the theme of the year, ‘Restore our Earth’.
The event was held for about an hour from 6.30 pm onwards on the day; and started with self- introduction of the participants followed by sharing thoughts and experiences based on the theme of the day, particularly in the ongoing pandemic situation due to Covid-19. Among the participants, Prof. K. J. Nath, President, IPHE; Dr. N. B. Basu, Vice-President, IPHE; ShriJ. C. Ganguly, Council Member; and fellow members Prof. S. K. Mazumder, ShriBipin Panda; Dr. AlokSuman, ShriKulbhusanVarshney, ShriBalakrishnanPillai, ShriBenugopalChoudhiryand Shri H. R. Gaidhani took active part in the lively discussions and raised their concerns on different environmental, socio-economic and other technical aspects on earth related issues especially in the current pandemic situation throughout the world. The event was coordinated by Shri K. A. Roy, Council Member, IPHE, India.
The key issues discussed by the expert speakers on the occasion included:
i) Scientificanalysis of past, present and future of the planet earth;
ii) Role of IPHE and its members in public awareness generation about caring and restoring the health of the planet, particularly in the ongoing pandemic situation;
iii) Need for pollution free environment;
iv) Scientificforest management;
v) Need for human resource development for restoration of the heath of the planet earth, so as to keep it livable for all.
The session ended with a vote of thanks to Prof. K J Nath, President and other participating members.
